Ewer - Tapering Cylinder with Waisted top - Birmingham 1990 by J&KR (Guild of Hull Silversmiths) - 20.2cm high; 224g - DL/3924

The Guild of Hull Silversmiths was formed in 1976 with fifteen founding members. In 1983, the guild was given permission to use the City's Coat of Arms on silver made by its members. This mark, consisting of three ducal coronets, was previously used by Hull silversmiths in the 17th and early 18th centuries and last used by Abraham Barachin circa 1706.

This Guild of Hull Silversmiths silver ewer bears Birmingham hallmarks with the makers mark J&KR and the Hull town mark described above. It is quite a small wine jug with an all over planished, hand-made appearance with a tapering cylindrical form and waisted neck. It stands upon a circular foot with Greek key border and has a simple C-shaped handle. The maker's mark has not been identified, but with the same surname were probably from the same family.

Items from this east Yorkshire guild rarely appear on the market and this is a great example in fine condition.
