Patch Box - Navette-shape with Bright-cut Engraving - Birmingham 1800 by Joseph Taylor - 3cm long - NS/1776
This is a very attractively decorated small silver box that would originally have been used to contain fashionable patches, but these days would ably suit as a pill box. It has all the trappings of the elegant Neo-classical style of the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries and has a vacant, shield-shaped cartouche to the centre. Both pieces are fully hallmarked and interestingly the cover has been struck with two lion passants rather than a date letter - presumably a "Friday afternoon" error of the strike! Excellent condition throughout.
