Pair Meat Plates - Oval with gadroon border and engraved coat-of-arms - London 1818 by Paul Storr - 387mm x 280mm; 2830 grams combined weight - Ref. No.: XV/9051
An outstanding pair of large meat platters (15.25" long) made by the most important 19th century English silversmith - Paul Storr. These oval plates are made in the typical Regency style with shaped gadroon and shell borders. They are of the very highest quality with a very hefty weight of over 45 troy ounces each! They both bear a superb coat-of-arms to two edges and a central cipher in script surmounted by the coronet of a Viscount.
These plates were obviously commissioned by a wealthy member of the aristocracy and were possibly bought from Rundell, Bridge & Rundell the Royal Goldsmiths for whom Storr made a substantial percentage of his wares. The motto of the coat-of-arms reads "PAUCA SUPEX PAUCTORA DESPEXI"
Fantastic condition with crisp engravings and clear hallmarks to both plates. Typical knife scratches to the front surfaces add to the overall patina.
