A sign of the rich heritage of these pieces are the engraved crests to the terminals that feature an otter and the motto "Debonnaire" surmount in Scottish style. This is the crest and motto of the Scottish branch of the Bethune (or Beaton) family.

These Scottish provincial silver table spoon bears the "INS" and cornucopia marks for Inverness and the "J&N" maker's mark for the partnership of Jamieson & Naughten. they are in fine condition throughout with neither damage nor repair - just look at the thick bowl tips which show little sign of wear.
