Card Case - Openwork Floral Design - Birmingham 1838 by Joseph Willmore - 9.5cm x 6.8cm; 77g - EQ/6368
This is a fantastic quality silver card case with a profusion of flowers. The flowers have been expertly gathered in an openwork framework and each one represents a country of the United Kingdom: the rose of England, shamrock of Ireland and thistle of Scotland.
This card case was presumably made to celebrate the coronation of Queen Victoria and is an early example with a squared more box-like form than later examples that were stamped in two halves. The case is centred by a shield cartouche and the hallmarks are located on the top rim. This beautiful card case is in excellent condition.
