Natural Shell Bowled Silver Spoon, c.1750
Sold
Spoon - Natural shell bowl - London circa 1750 - 10.9cm long; 9g - DE/4311
This is a lovely mid-18th century silver teaspoon with the unusual feature of a cowrie shell forming the bowl.
The shell has been clevery and securely connected to the Hanoverian pattern style handle withan overlap to the upper and undersides. Although tricky to read, the shape of the lion passant hallmark dates this spoon to the 1738-1755 period.
This is a very rare survivor from the George II period that remains in excellent condition throughout.
