Sugar Sifter Spoon - 'Mermaid' - London 1843 by James Charles Edington - 170mm long; 80g - Ref. No.: CB/1583

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a very rare example of a cast silver sugar sifter spoon with a lovely figural finial in the form of a mermaid. The mermaid is looking into a hand mirror and has long flowing hair down her back. Seaweed tendrils cascade down the stem towards the generous oval bowl. The bowl is pierced in a most unusual manner with the scrolls and crosslets not showing to the reverse but instead only a round hole shows to the reverse - a sign of the thick gauge of silver used to make the bowl! A very fine and desirable spoon.
