MC/GA Caddy Spoon, 1840
Sold
Caddy Spoon - London 1840 by Mary Chawner & George Adams - 11cm long; 28g - SK/9525
Chawner & Company were the most important silver spoonmakers of the 19th century and in 1840 Mary Chawner briefly entered in to a partnership with her son-in-law George Adams. Their MC/GA mark was only used for less than four months between 3rd August 1840 to 23rd November 1840, making it the rarest of all Chawner and Company marks.
This Fiddle & Thread silver caddy spoon is typical of the high quality expected from the Chawner workshop - it has a nice solid feel in the hand and bears a pleasing engraved crest of a squirrel to the front terminal. It remains in splendid condition.
