Love Token Box, 1684

A superb Charles II box that is beautifully engraved with a tulip (?) to the top and an iris to the underside. The box is the same size as period wafer boxes, but the subject of the engraving and the inscription to the side - "J'attire et tiens tous" would suggest that the box was given as a gift for personal treasures. The French phrase loosely translates to "I attract and hold everything". The box is in fine condition with the engraving remaining crisp. A further major advantage is the presence of a clear set of hallmarks to the interior of the base and matching part marks to the cover. The maker is cited in Jacksons and is ascribed to a wafer box. This is a very rare piece and a great find - especially in such fine condition.
