Victorian Mythical Beast Bowl, 1898

This is a wonderful quality large silver bowl with exquisite decoration throughout. With a diameter of over 9" across the top, this bowl could be used either as a small punch bowl or large rose bowl. It has an octofoil form to the top half with cherub masks to four panels and a vacant cartouche to the central panel on each side (no erasures). The final two panels hold the beautifully modelled mythical winged lion handles and the round lower half of the bowl and the foot are profusely embossed throughout with floral scrolls. This is a truly fantastic bowl that remains in excellent polished condition throughout and is a fine piece of late Victorian silver.
