Hob'n'Nob Double Beaker, 1800 Batemans

Sold
Double Beaker - Barrel-shape - London 1800 by Peter, Ann & William Bateman - 160mm high x 80mm max diameter; 435g weight - Ref. No.: MZ/7534
This is an outstanding piece of Georgian silver. It is a hefty barrel-shaped vessel that break in two at the middle to form two separate beakers. The interiors retain their original gilt finish and the exteriors bear engraved crests of a goat's head. Both cup bases bear full sets of hallmarks and the initials "MB" of the original owners.
The condition is superb with a fabulous original patina. The two beakers fit perfectly together to make up the barrel..
This type of piece was produced for just a few short years at the turn of the 18th/19th centuries and are sometimes known as "Hob 'n' Nob Beakers". This double beaker is a first rate example of the type.
