Sorry, this item is out of stock.

A superb example of an extremely rare Irish provincial silver tripod cream jug. This cream jug has many positive attributes, not least the fine hefty weight signifying great quality and workmanship. Furthermore the good gauge of silver has helped the piece survive 230 years in immaculate condition with a fine patina from gentle use. The form of the jug is in the much sought after 3-footed tripod style of the mid to late 18th century with an attractive scroll handle. The cream jug was made by Patrick Ryan of Cork and bears a clear "PR" makers' mark in addition to the distinctive "STERLING". This is a rare maker that is not even recorded in either Jacksons or Bennett. The jug is also stamped with a fleur-de-lys mark usually associated with Limerick made silver. A sauceboat and a sugar bowl by Patrick Ryan, with the same fluted hoof feet, are illustrated in "Cork Silver & Gold: Four Centuries of Craftsmanship" by Bowen & O'Brien. This jug has rarity, age, beauty, quality and fine condition...!
