Hester Bateman Muffineer, 1781

Sold
Muffineer - 'Baluster' - London 1781 by Hester Bateman - 142mm high; 75g - Ref. No.: KV/9798
A fine example of an elegant Hester Bateman caster. Mid-way between a pepper pot and a sugar caster, this muffineer would have originally been used to sprinkle powdered sugar or flour on to scones, muffins and cakes. These days it could be used for all manner of purpose, but whatever its function, it has a timeless stylish form and would grace any collection. The condition is excellent an both the underside of the base and the rim of the pierced cover are appropriately hallmarked.
