Caddy Spoon - Gilt with Niello Scene of The Kremlin - Moscow 1880 - 9.2cm long; 24g - PB/2661

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is an outstanding quality silver-gilt caddy shovel with a pictorial scene to the reverse side. The spoon has a fabulous feeling of quality in the hand with a beautifully decorated handle and bowl, plus the addition of an all over gilt finish make this a highly desirable piece. The niello landscape on the reverse side of the bowl shows a very detailed scene of The Kremlin from across the Moskva River. The condition is superb throughout.

Niello is a black compound of sulphur with silver, lead, or copper and was used for filling in engraved designs in silver. It was especially popular as a decorative effect on Russian made silver.
