Medicine Spoon Description: Gibson patent Hallmark: London 1828 by Charles Gibson Dimensions: 129mm long; 29 grams - Ref. No.: ON/8185
An early example of a rare Gibson's Patent spoon. The spoon has a hollow handle to allow the user to control the quantity of medicine consumed by placing a finger over the aperture. This form of spoon was invented in 1827 and is engraved thus around the collar on the handle "C Gibson Inventor 1 Bishopsgate St Wethian". The flush hinge is in fine condition, and the handle is free from dents. There is a clear set of hallmarks to the inside of the bowl. An excellent example.
An identical spoon is illustrated in "Silver Flatware" by Ian Pickford on page 208 figure 379.
