Candlesnuffer Tray - Wavy Rectangle with Gadroon & Shell Mount - London 1765 by Thomas Hannam & John Carter - 20cm long; 9.5cm wide; 6.7cm high; 314g - EK/9237
This is a really fine example of a Georgian silver candlesnuffer tray.
Standing on four cast feet, it has a most attractive shape with a bold, gadroon border and a looped over handle. It has a really, nice hefty feel in the hand and is engraved with a crisp crest to the centre. It would originally been used as part of the lighting equippage for holding the wick trimmers or candle snuffers. It bears a full set of London hallmarks to the reverse side with the TH/IC maker's mark for the specialist tray makers Hannam & Carter (see Grimwade reference 2805*).
This mid-18th century silver snuffer tray remains in excellent condition with a good, antique patina.
