George I Spoon Tray, 1718

Sold
Spoon Tray - Scalloped edge - London 1718 by James Goodwin - 16cm x 8.5cm; 90g - CD/1917
A rare Georgian silver spoon tray with good Britannia Standard hallmarks.
This 6.3" long oblong tray with rounded ends has a scalloped edge and is an early example of this rare type of tray. It would have been used during the tea ceremony for placing used teaspoons. The hallmarks are located to the top surface and include the "Go" mark of this specialist maker. The overall condition is excellent, although there is a small repair towards the edge (see close-up photo) that although needs reporting is a very minor issue for such a rare piece.
