Salver - Cast Border and Engraved Coat-of-Arms - London 1817 by Edward Edwards - 32.3cm diameter; 5.3cm high; 1390g - FC/8633

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a magnificent Georgian silver salver with a superbly engraved coat-of-arms with mantling to the centre. The important bonus for this high quality tray is the cast border which, owing to the difficulties in manufacture, is a rare feature for salvers. The border is superbly detailed with a vine tendril adorned with an abundance of grapes and leaves alternating with a flowery tendril and interspersed with human and dog masks. The only way to attach cast borders to a flat surface is by way of screw threads and nuts as in this example - the high temperatures required for soldering would warp the flat surface. The whole stands on four cast and pierced scroll feet.

The tray is in fabulous condition with crisp detail and engraving. Both the border and flat surface are independently and appropriately hallmarked to match. A superb piece of Regency period silver.
