Very early Grape Scissors 1797

Sold
Grape Scissors - Openwork handles - London 1797 by Wilkes Booth - 15cm long; 62g - GV/5436
These are a very early pair of grape scissors as they virtually always date from at least the early 19th Century. They show a couple of clear examples of how grape scissors were first fashioned.
Firstly, this pair were made by Wilkes Booth who was a specialist candlesnuffer maker (aka wick trimmers) and the openwork handles are very typical of candlesnuffers at the end of the 18th century. The shaped blades are larger and more bulky than later grape scissors. The central pivot is well constructed and is of the type that can be found at any future date.
These grape scissors have a good solid weight and are in superb condition. The hallmarks are very clear too and their pristineness means that they have presumably seen little use.
