Elgin Silver Dessert Spoon, 1809
Sold
Dessert Spoon - Fiddle pattern - Elgin circa 1810 by Charles Fowler - 17.8cm long; 34g - PF/3910
This is a scarce Scottish provincial silver dessert spoon made in Elgin by Charles Fowler.
Intriguingly, the front terminal of this fiddle pattern spoon is engraved with a "MR" monogram in script above "BARVAS 1809". This may relate to the Barvas Estate on the Isle of Lewis. The reverse side is stamped with "ELN" for the north east Scottish town of Elgin and the "CF" maker's mark for Charles Fowler who was working in the area during the early decades of the 19th century. The spoon is in excellent condition with a lovely antique patina and a thick, unworn bowl tip.
