Marrow Scoop - Double Shell-back - London circa 1750 - 21cm long; 77g - FG/4380

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

An outstanding quality double ended silver marrow scoop with a terrific weight. This Georgian scoop has two sized scoops in the standard form, but differ in having a shell motif to the reverse of both heels - fancy back marrow scoops tend to generally only have one such motif. The gauge of silver used to make this piece is amazing and further testament to top drawer quality is the superb engraved crest with motto to the larger scoop: the Latin motto reads "CORDE MANUQUE" which translates to "with heart and mind". The hallmarks are struck to the central shank, but the date letter and maker's mark although present are both worn and illegible. The lion passant is clearly struck and is from the 1739-55 period.
