Toddy Ladle - Fiddle Pattern - Cupar (?) circa 1820 by TD - 15cm long; 27g - JV/9766

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This long elegant silver toddy ladle bears the marks of a very rare Scottish provincial maker and town. The marks are "TD", "S" crown, castle (?) and thistle - see page34 of "Illustrated Directory of Scottish Provincial Silversmiths & Their Marks" by Richard Turner where they are described as possibly for Cupar.

Cupar silver is always considered rare, but this is the first time we have encountered the as yet unknown maker "TD" (possibly Thomas Dall). The spoon is in excellent condition throughout with a script engraved letter "L" to the front terminal. A competitive price for a spoon that is worth of further research!
