Caddy Spoon - Wheatsheaf Engraving - Dublin 1966 by William Egan (of Cork) - 7cm long; 14.5g - RA/6226

This rare Irish silver caddy spoon was made in the provincial city of Cork by William Egan.

This good quality caddy spoon has an attractively engraved handle with a wide, shell-shaped bowl. The spoon has a fabulous set of Dublin hallmarks and includes a clear example of the "Sword of Light" (An Cladheamh Solais) commemorative mark that was stamped on Irish silver made during 1966 to celebrate the Golden jubilee of the rising of 1916.

The firm of Egan's were very pro Republican in their politics and produced their own independently marked Commonwealth silver following the 1916 rising.
