Sauce Label - CHILI; Crescent with scrolls - London 1828 by William Elliott - 34mm wide - Ref. No.: OB/3988

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

A rare crescent form of sauce bottle label with the pierced name "Chili". Fully hallmarked to the reverse, although some of the detail has been typically lost in the piercing. There is some solder visible to the centre of the base on the reverse side - this almost certainly dates from the time of manufacture to cover a stress fracture that occurred during stamping.

A near identical Chili label is illustrated in "Sauce Labels" by John Salter in photo 33 (page 135) where it is described as "architectural type basket" form.
