Serving Knife & Fork (pair, cased) - Figural - London 1856 by Francis Higgins - Knife = 26.4cm long. Fork = 21cm long. 213g gross weight. Case = 30cm long - NL/3560
A fabulous pair of servers with the handles superbly modelled as a lady. These beautiful silver serving knife and fork are presented within their original case. These servers are typical of the very high quality produced by the Francis Higgins workshop. The detailing to the toga clad female figures is wonderful and they are probably representations of Greek or Roman mythological characters that, judging from the vine and grape decoration, are related to wine and the grape harvest.
The pair have a lovely feel in the hand and although originally intended for dessert/fruits, these days could be multi-purpose in use. There is a discreet crest within both of the small cartouches. The silver is in excellent condition; the box is fine too, although the opening clasp has lost its button, it still works. A very fine pair of Victorian servers.
