Wine Label - Calcavella; Down-turned Scroll with Surmount - London 1800 by James Darouitts - 5.1cm wide; 8.5g - MA/4176</p>

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This handsome wine label bears the scarcely encountered "ID" makers mark that is most likely to be for James Darouitts (see Wine Labels p. 409), this is probably the same silversmith as the James Darquits shown as mark 1247 in Grimwade. With its reeded border and cartouche surmount (which remains vacant) it is typical of the turn of the 18th/19th centuries. The label is named for "Calcavella, a sweet wine from Portugal, and has clear hallmarks to the reverse. it is in fine condition.
