Andiron Sugar Tongs, 1725

This rare pair of sugar tongs date from the earliest period of sugar tongs production and have the distinctive rattail design of the period to both bowls. Tongs of this period were all in the andiron form and are often unmarked. This pair bear a difficult to read maker's mark to one of the bowls and is either "S?" or "?S". The tongs are in good all round condition with a baluster terminal to the bow.
