Caddy Spoon (cased) - Arts & Crafts with turquoise - Birmingham 1910 by A E Jones - 92 mm length - Ref No: JT/9598
A rare arts and crafts silver caddy spoon by one of the foremost silversmiths of the movement. This spoon has an Art Nouveau style lyre-shaped openwork handle with a centrally placed turquoise cabochon stone. The bowl is heart-shaped and retains it's original planished (hammer marks) finish. The spoon is presented within it's original case which opens from the centre (hinged both sides) and has a securing clasp to the exterior.
An identical silver plated example (without stone) to this spoon is shown in the book "The Caddy Spoon in the 20th Century" by The Society of Caddy Spoon Collectors. It is illustrated on page 11 (figure h) and described in the text thus: "early silver examples have a turquoise boss within the lyre shape".
