39-piece Boxed Silver Old English Pattern Canteen, London 1904 by Jackson & Fullerton
The Service
We are pleased to be offering a beautifully presented Edwardian period silver 6 place settings canteen of cutlery in Old English Pattern. The service provides for five pieces per 6 place settings with additional egg spoons and an array of serving items.
All the spoons and forks were made in London by George Jackson & David Fullerton and benefit from having no personalised engravings to them. An additional attention to detail can be seen on the egg spoons, salt spoons and mustard spoon which all have gilt bowls to protect the silver from the corrosive effects of salt.
Jackson & Fullerton were one of the premier specialist silver flatware makers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and any silver flatware bearing their mark will be of the finest quality. The service is contained within a beautiful wooden box with the label showing the name of the original retailer: Army & Navy Co-operative Society Limited. The Army & Navy stores were a co-operative set up in the 19th century for military officers and so it is likely that this service was originally owned as a campaign set.
The service is supplied without knives, but we can provide appropriate complementary knives on request.
Old English Pattern
Old English Pattern was first introduced circa 1770 and has always been a very favoured pattern due to its elegant and simple form. It has been produced continually to the present day with a resurgence of popularity in the early 20th Century.
