The Service
We are offering for sale an excellent silver 12 place settings canteen in Kings Pattern. The service provides for 10 pieces per 12 place settings with serving spoons and a carving set and is presented within a first class wooden box.
This is a straight solid silver service with all the pieces being original to the box and made by the same maker in Sheffield 1976 (apart from one near identical replacement table fork). The 24 knives, 24 fish eaters and the 3-piece carving set are all fitted with best quality stainless steel blades/tines.
King's Pattern
King's Pattern is the most well known and popular decorative pattern. It was based on an 18th century French design and became fashionable amongst the wealthy in the early years of the 19th Century. The design encompasses a shell to both sides of the handle terminal and reverse of the bowl, scrolls down the handle shaft with a honeysuckle motif to the centre. The double-struck nature of the pattern (i.e. pattern on both sides) ensures that a good gauge of silver was used in manufacture.

Presentation
This canteen is offered in its original wooden box. The box has a lift up lid with knives inserted inside and two pullout drawers with brass handles. The drawers are retained in place by a hinged gate leg to either side. Each piece has its own slot to prevent scuffing its neighbour. The veneer to the top edges of the box are a little worn, but otherwise the box is in good working order.
As with all the canteens available from our web-site, we are happy to send a sample place setting for approval, on receipt of a fully refundable surety payment, prior to purchasing this canteen.
