The Service
We are pleased to be offering a fabulous quality late 20th Century silver 12 place settings canteen of cutlery in Fancy Bead Pattern.
A particularly desirable feature of this set is the presence of Britannia Standard silver hallmarks to each piece – at 95.8% purity, Britannia Standard is more pure than the usual 92.5% Sterling Standard. The Britannia Standard mark is very rarely found on flatware and we cannot recall the last time we had such a canteen in stock! Every piece is hallmarked for London 1980 by Richard Comyn and benefits from having no personalised engravings to them.
This service provides for ten pieces per 12 place settings with three serving spoons. It includes matching fish eaters in the superior “spoon handled” variety and the scarce addition of salad forks which provide the benefit of a fork for the starter course . The table and dessert knives are fitted with stainless steel blades.
The service was made by the highly regarded London based company of Comyns. Each piece will have been hand-wrought which is considered superior to machine making.
The design consists of a delicate bead border with a scroll surround to the central cartouche. It is a Victorian pattern and every piece bears the original kite mark showing that the design was registered in 1868.
