Silver Seal Top Spoon, 1618 Wm Lovejoy

At just over 300 years old, this James I period silver seal top spoon has n't done too badly, but it is showing signs of use thus accounting for the very competitive price!

Importantly there is not any actual damage nor any repairs, but the bowl has some scratches and pits (possibly from burial?) and a sharp leading edge (the full shape of the bowl is retained). In addition, the cast terminal has lost some of its definition. 

On a positive note, there is a good set of hallmarks to the reverse side that includes the sought after crescent enclosing a mullet makers mark that was passed down from master to apprentice through a series of important 16th and 17th century specialist spoonmakers, which has been attributed in recent years by Piers Percival and in this instance belongs to the last of the line - William Lovejoy 

This is a good, honest, early 17th century silver seal top spoon that has plenty of character and certainly looks like an antique with many a story to tell.
