Spoon - Apostle-top: St. James the Less - London 1632 by TE - 18.5cm long; 62g - EY/3616

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a fine quality Charles I period silver apostle spoon in excellent condition. The spoon has a good hefty weight in the hand as a thick gauge of silver has been used in its manufacture. The apostle to the terminal is holding a fuller's bat, thus identifying him as St. James The Less. He is wearing a nimbus on his head which bears a worn sacred dove emblem. The spoon is stamped with a good leopard's head bowl mark and three excellent stem marks including the unidentified "TE with mullet below" makers mark (see Jacksons Pickford Edition, page 114 6th entry)

This 17th century spoon is in excellent condition with original rim to the bowl. There is some pitting to a small section of the bowl and later "IW" engraving to the reverse of the bowl, but overall this is a very fine spoon.
